Air India launches a connecting flight on Delhi-Kanpur-Kolkata route

Air India has expanded its services and connected Kanpur with metropolitan cities of India like Delhi and Kolkata. The effort is made to meet the high demand of Air India to connect Kanpur with major destinations. Four acres of land was given on the demand of the locals for a new terminal building but somehow the work was getting delayed. It is claimed that the reasons for interruption in launching the flights had been sorted out and the airport at Kanpur is expecting to see more flights. Indian airline flight AI-9801 has started its first service from Delhi with a 70-seater Canadian Regional Jet aircraft that witnessed the occupancy of 50 passengers.

The regional sector is being considered as the important aspect that would add to the contribution of growth in India's aviation industry as these cities require connectivity to major metros. The Delhi-Kolkata direct flight air fare is Rs 6,000 where as Air India would be offering a seat at Rs 4,000 on the Delhi-Kanpur-Kolkata route and passenger could save enough money.

Usually from Delhi there are 2 airline operators which operate their flights 2 times in a day to Kanpur & it takes about 1hr to reach the Kanpur Airport. The air route form Kanpur to Kolkata was not direct as passenger has to stop in between Delhi to take a connecting flight to Kolkata. With the latest amendment of connecting a route between Delhi-kanpur- Kolkata traveling has become much easier and economical for the passengers.

Air India is operating small planes on the same route like the CRJ and the turbo-prop ATRs to save its operating costs. It has been stated that if the occupancy remains high on Delhi-Kanpur-Kolkata flight there are plans that the national carrier will connect with Mumbai and Ahmedabad also.
